Fred Labunikher, APCC
"The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second best time is now."
Many people come to therapy wishing they had addressed something sooner: a difficult relationship, unhappiness or anxiety, questions of identity, or patterns of behavior that no longer work for them. While we cannot change the past, we can begin to understand it, learn from it, and make different choices moving forward. Fred Labunikher believes that therapy provides a space to better understand ourselves and make meaningful changes in the present. He believes growth begins with self-understanding, acceptance, honest exploration, and a collaborative therapeutic relationship built on trust and authenticity.
Fred received his Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Loyola Marymount University (LMU) and completed his clinical training at LMU's Student Psychological Services. There, he provided individual and group therapy to a diverse population of college students. Prior to becoming a therapist, Fred spent more than sixteen years as a music educator. His time as a music teacher reinforced the importance of creativity and self compassion to help people overcome any obstacles in order to reach their artistic goals.
Fred takes an integrative, relational approach to therapy, drawing from psychodynamic, person-centered, mindfulness and cognitive behavioral based therapies to meet each client's individual needs. He values understanding clients within the context of their culture, relationships, and life experiences while using evidence-based practices that support their goals.
In his practice, Fred enjoys working with young adults and adults of all ages and has particular interest in helping individuals navigate anxiety, depression, ADHD, life transitions, relationship difficulties, LGBTQ+, identity development, and questions related to meaning, purpose, and personal growth. Drawing from his background in music, Fred also enjoys working with musicians, actors, artists, and other creative individuals.
Fred Labunikher is a registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor in California (APCC 23062) and practices under the supervision of Dr. Rachel Brosamle (PSY 28443)
